Born By the Sea A dynamic and fluid dance performed by two exceptional dancers
Born by the Sea by choreographer Fran Diaz from Germany is a duet of dancers working together as two well-oiled machines. Their movement is clean, sharp and plastic at the same time, it has a refreshing effect and resembles the mating ritual of two predators. Their bodies represent living archives, reminding us of the traces of the past, which can strengthen us, but also hinder us.

About the piece
In BORN BY THE SEA, the paths of two individuals cross. Traces of their past experiences overlap and diverge, informing the way they move and the choices they make. Framed by faded memories and the romantic bleakness of Richie Culver's spoken word, their bodies act as living archives, reminding us that while some traces of the past empower us, others can hold us back; shaping how we move and cope in profound ways.

FRAN DÍAZ
Fran Díaz is a Spanish choreographer based in Germany. His work, often manifested in multidisciplinary projects, explores themes related to collectivity. His projects feature a clinical and almost sculptural choreographic style, characterised by extremely fast execution by the performers and a choreographic language with references to contemporary dance, hip-hop or club culture. Díaz's work delves into the intersection of dance and queer identity, with an open interest in examining the challenges the art form faces within certain institutional structures.
Díaz has won prizes in prestigious international competitions such as the Hanover International Choreography Competition and the Copenhagen International Choreography Competition. He has also premiered works for the Ballet of the Bavarian State Opera (Munich) and soon for the Hessian State Ballet and the Leipzig Opera. Recently his piece Born by the sea was selected as one of Aerowaves Twenty24 works.
