From graffiti and breakdance to contemporary dance

German choreographer Moritz Ostruschnjak is the author of TRAILER PARK, a piece in which digital impulses are transformed into physical reality. The German company tanzmainz will present it in Bratislava on October 13, 2025 at Divadlo Aréna as part of the Bratislava in Movement Festival (October 6–25, 2025).

At Divadlo Aréna, a bare stage will gradually be filled by ten dancers. Their movement balances on the edge between the analogue and digital worlds. Choreographer Moritz Ostruschnjak tasked them with bringing to the stage movements found in the online space – from viral videos to gestures from “meme culture.”

Torn from their original context and rearranged into new combinations, they create choreography that is physically intense, energetic, and at the same time reflects an everyday life oversaturated with digital stimuli.

Trailer Park is Ostruschnjak’s first collaboration with tanzmainz.
“If you give space to chance, you find gold. The best idea wins – and it doesn’t have to come from me. Even though I, as the choreographer, am responsible for the result, we are all the authors of Trailer Park,” he says.

The performance also resonated strongly with critics. Sanjoy Roy from Springback Magazine called Trailer Park “an energetic and disturbingly timely work – like a cocktail you drink with pleasure, even as you’re aware of its chemical additives and colorings.”

Moritz Ostruschnjak comes from Munich, where he moved from graffiti and breakdance into contemporary dance. As a choreographer, he creates works that connect the body’s physicality with digital impulses. The City of Munich awarded him the Dance Prize (2020), and he was selected as one of the Aerowaves Twenty21 Artists.

tanzmainz is the resident contemporary dance company of the State Theater Mainz. Under the artistic direction of Honne Dohrmann, it presents three to five new premieres each season in collaboration with leading choreographers. The company is known for its openness, its courage to reflect on social issues, and the high artistic quality that has secured it regular invitations to major festivals at home and abroad. This is its second appearance in Bratislava. In 2021, it electrified a sold-out auditorium at the Drama Theatre of the Slovak National Theatre with a performance by choreographer Sharon Eyal.
