CLAP & SLAP is a dance performance about the tensions that have intensified in Eastern Europe since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Agnietė Lisičkinaitė and Igor Shugaleev draw on their own experiences of civic protest, fear, anger and the need to act. Igor took part in the Belarusian protests in 2020 and was forced to leave the country, while Agnietė was protesting outside the Belarusian embassy in Vilnius at the same time.

On stage, they meet in a dialogue about guilt, civic responsibility, solidarity and the boundary between resistance and aggression. The work presents politically engaged dance, lightened by humour and infused with human vulnerability. It asks how we can defend our values without harming others.

CLAP & SLAP was selected for Aerowaves Twenty26, which presents twenty outstanding works by emerging artists on the European dance scene each year.
