Funding did not come through. The festival will go ahead anyway.

The 30th edition of Bratislava in Movement will not receive public funding from the Slovak Arts Council this year.

Other major events, including Divadelná Nitra and Konvergencie, were also left without support. We see this as a signal that goes beyond a single festival.

We cannot change the decision of the Slovak Arts Council, but it will not stop us. Over almost three decades, Bratislava in Movement has brought more than 260 companies and artists from over 30 countries to Slovakia, along with more than 100 accompanying events. In total, the festival has welcomed almost 40,000 visitors.

In recent years, we have seen contemporary dance gaining an increasingly broad audience in Slovakia. Sold-out performances and festival attendance of more than 90 percent have confirmed this. For us, this is proof that audiences are open to contemporary dance and art.

We decided to dedicate the anniversary edition to French dance also because the festival’s beginnings in 1997 were strongly inspired by Bratislava en Mouvement, a festival organised by the French Institute in Bratislava. We wanted to bring exceptional artists and an intense artistic experience on a scale worthy of the 30th edition. We now have to adjust this plan, but we are not abandoning it. The festival will therefore take place, although on a smaller scale. Its continuity will be preserved thanks to the support of our strategic partners, the City of Bratislava and the Tatra banka Foundation, as well as many others. Join them.

If you want Bratislava in Movement to continue, come. By buying a ticket, you will support the festival directly.

We are working intensively on launching ticket sales. As soon as they are available, we will let you know. Until then, it will help us greatly if you share this message and follow our next steps through our social media channels and newsletter.
